A Day at Happy Hearts School
Circle Time
At Happy Hearts, children are encouraged to speak and express themselves in whatever way they are able, their developmental level. This is done by modeling communication in a soft and kind manner during all times, especially at Circle Time. Communication, whether individually or in groups, is a big part of the Happy Hearts daily experience. This includes stories, numbers, colors, shapes, and our theme of the week, etc.
Play
The benefits of "play" are enormous and far reaching. During play, small children develop skills and learn concepts. Through play, children discover. They may discover things outside of them, they may discover things about themselves. Though being unable to intellectualize because of their age, they nevertheless learn things such as making choices depending on their likes and dislikes. They learn what it is like to be in group situations. All of these things and more lay the groundwork for later learning and verbalizing.
The Purpose of Art
At Happy Hearts, I expose the children to creative art activities. The experience of doing is more important than the finished product. Each child is encouraged to appreciate the uniqueness of his own creations.
Proper Clothing for a Day at Happy Hearts
The preschooler at Happy Hearts uses paint, glue, play dough, crayons, etc. I encourage the wearing of clothes that allow children to be children, in other words, clothes that were made to get dirty.
Nap Time
For proper growth and healing, children need rest. I provide a time to rest after lunch. Soft music will be played to create a restful atmosphere.
Readiness Activities
Happy Hearts children work on activities that help prepare them for Kindergarten. Depending on the child's age or level of developmental readiness, they will experience different levels of teaching, utilizing symbols, letters, numbers, shapes, and colors.
Outdoor Time
Children need to run, jump, climb, roll and wiggle for large motor skills to develop. The backyard at Happy Hearts provides for these needs with climbing equipment, wheel toys, balls, and bubbles.

Happy Hearts Kids enjoy reading time
Afternoon Activities
After nap time, children are given a snack. After snack we may go outside depending upon the weather. Sometimes we will have a second circle time in the afternoon. We might even put on a Barney video or something else to calm down the children before you pick them up.
